
The Villas of Vorno: an itinerary through history, nature and astronomy
Discover Vorno, an enchanting village located at the foot of Monte Pisano, with a suggestive 5-6 km circular route that winds through historic villas, green landscapes and paths immersed in nature. The route, which can be covered on foot or by bicycle, offers picturesque views of clear streams, pergolas blooming with wisteria and grapes, and high stone walls that guard the noble residences built between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries by families from Lucca. Through decorated gates and tree-lined avenues, you can glimpse well-kept gardens with fountains, box hedges and exotic plants.
An unmissable stop is the Pieve di San Pietro, dating back to the 9th century and transformed over time. Inside, valuable works of art such as the canvas of the Madonna Assunta fra San Pietro e San Paolo by Stefano Tofanelli and a neoclassical baptismal font attributed to Lorenzo Nottolini.
Continuing along Via di Valle, after about 2 km uphill, you reach the Capannori Astronomical Observatory, a panoramic point perfect for observing the sky. Here, cutting-edge telescopes allow you to admire stars and planets, with events and informative evenings organized by the Photometric Research Institute (IRF).
